Paul Markowitz, Founder

Paul is the owner and principal of Senior Living Specialists.  Paul founded Senior Living Specialists as a result of his personal experience with finding a DFW Assisted Living Facility for his Mom, Betty, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the young age of 59.  The diagnosis was unexpected, and Paul did not know where to turn for help with this difficult situation. There were not any services available that offered the passion and personal experience that someone in Paul’s shoes needed. He decided that he wanted to do something where he could help other families in the community who were dealing with similar situations, since he had been through this stressful and very difficult situation himself.  After touring many DFW senior living facilities, Senior Living Specialists assisted its first family in May of 2009.   

Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Indiana University and studied abroad in Florence, Italy. Before founding Senior Living Specialists, Paul was a Strategy Consultant for four years. In that role, Paul worked on mergers & acquisitions and business development cases on behalf of many Fortune 500 companies located throughout the United States.    

In his spare time, Paul enjoys spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, playing golf and fly fishing. Paul has lived in Dallas for over 20 years and is very active in the community.  He often speaks about the challenges of caring for a loved one and what families should look for when considering different retirement living facilities.

Pat S, Family Liaison

Pat was born in Los Angeles and lived in California until 2007, when they decided to relocate to Texas.  Pat has 3 adult children ages 42, 40 and 35.  Pat is also the grandmother to 6 grandchildren, ranging in age from 13 years to 3 months.

Pat found her calling when she started assisting families in finding senior living option in 2004. Pat’s father and mother-in-law were both diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease about 20 years ago. Pat was overwhelmed with the tasks of finding, coordinating and overseeing their care and at the time she could not find anyone to help make the process more manageable.  The good news is that Pat learned so much about caring for a loved one by having to navigate all of the options on her own. Six years of experience working with an elder services company in California and Texas added more knowledge to enable Pat to be more helpful to families during the stressful time of having to make decisions about where a loved one should live to get the care they need and deserve.

In Pat’s leisure time, you will find her reading at least one book. She and her husband have enjoyed traveling both in the United States and out of the country.

Anne L, Family Liaison
 
Anne joined the Senior Living Specialists team in 2010 to help families find Fort Worth assisted living facilities and other types of Fort Worth senior living options. Anne left a well-established corporate career in 2008 to start her own business with the goal of helping people find health, wellness, and balance in their busy everyday lives. Anne's company, Real Time Integral Therapy based in Fort Worth, provides Relaxation Therapy, Stress Management, and Yoga Therapy for anyone interested in managing stress and maintaining optimal health and wellness. Her clients include people confronting illness or managing disease, along with their caregivers.  She has worked with hospice patients with a variety of diagnoses including Cancer, COPD, Alzheimer's, ALS, and Parkinson's disease.
 
Through her work in palliative care, Anne has become intimately familiar with the challenges families face when coping with long-term illness. She has spent countless hours inside a variety of assisted living facilities, Alzheimer’s facilities, care homes and nursing homes in the Fort Worth area. Anne has also experienced the devastation of Alzheimer's disease in her own family.  Her maternal grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when she was around just 60 years-old. Anne brings a unique perspective and a compassionate touch to her work, and is grateful for the opportunity to help families through her work with Senior Living Specialists.
 
Anne has a BA from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Anne teaches yoga in Fort Worth at Texas Christian University, where she received the 2009 award for Outstanding Fitness and Wellness Instructor.
